Stitching our way to grounded tranquility one stitch at a time.
Join us as we use all kinds of hand stitching from slow stitching to embroidery to knitting, crochet or needlepoint as a meditative and calming practice.
A few years ago, I picked up slow stitching and hand embroidery again after a long absence. This time I really noticed how calm and relaxed I felt while holding my stitching in my hands. I found myself gravitating more towards hand stitching in the evenings after work, and it turned out to be a perfect way to wind down after a stressful day.
I loved stitching for the sake of stitching. For me, it became process over product.
The transformation: From hobby to meditative practice
As someone with ADHD, I found silent meditation almost impossible and (dare I say boring?) But I knew the benefits of stilling the mind and being quiet. I was attending seminary to become an ordained minister, so I was drawn to mysticism and contemplation. I began to use my stitching time intentionally as a way to help center myself and practice presence.
Later, I figured that others might be interested in joining me on the path to finding an oasis of peace at the end of the day with needle, thread and cloth. Making for the sake of making.
This is your invitation if you’re ready to let go of the pursuit of picture perfect embroidery motifs, and instead, develop a new relationship with your stitching.
